Holiday Market

Mark your calendars - the Holiday Market will be held at Miller Perry Elementary on Friday, Dec. 7th from 6 - 8:30pm.  Check back soon for more details.

American Education Week 2012

American Education Week is the week of November 12th thru November 16th.  We will have lots of fun things going on all week.  We will be honoring a special group of our staff each day and, as is tradition, will have dress up themes each day.

Monday:  Be your own Hero (wear your favorite color, outfit, shirt).  Sport your own style!

Tuesday:  Everyday Heroes.  Show your idea of our everyday heroes in our community and in your life.
                 Heroes Breakfast with local heroes...police, firefighters, etc.

Wednesday:  Super Hero Day
                      Staff Breakfast

Thursday:  Team Heroes.  Show us your team heroes; wear your jersey or team colors.

Friday:  Miller Perry Heroes.  Wear your Miller Perry gear.
              Staff luncheon.

Heroes Breakfast

Fuel Up to Play 60 Heroes Breakfast Eat Breakfast with our Local Heroes November 13, 2012 8:00 - 8:20am Come join us in celebration of our community heroes. Local firefighters, police officers, and Army Reservists will be at the school to eat breakfast with our students and also talk to them about making healthy choices. If you do not normally eat breakfast but would like to on that day, please fill out the bottom portion of the form sent home from school and return it to your teacher.

Spirit Cup Fundraiser

This week is the beginning of our PTA fall fundraiser with the BRAX Spirit Cups.  Proceeds from this sale will go towards the improvement of technology in our classrooms here at Miller Perry.

The Spirit Cups are sold in a pack of 4 and are 100% made in the USA.  These high quality cups are officially licensed with all NFL teams, all MLB clubs, over 90 top colleges, and 5 branches of military.  Remember, Christmas is only 10 weeks away.  These cups will make excellent gifts for family, frineds, teens, college students, and more!

Important things to remember:

• Sale dates are Friday, Oct. 12th - Friday, Oct. 26th.
• Order turn-in and prize redemption dates are Friday, Oct. 19th and Friday, Oct. 26th.
• Collect all money for the sales and have checks made payable to Miller Perry PTA.
• Orders will be in 2-3 weeks after the close of the sale.

Join National PTA President Betsy Landers, White House Chef Sam Kass, Kids' Safe and Healthful Food Project, and USDA for a live discussion about the exciting new meals coming to school cafeterias near you!

School lunches will have a whole new look this year as part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) updated nutrition standards for school meals. As parents, it can be difficult to navigate what these changes mean and how you can support your kids and your school in making healthy choices.

Family Fitness Kickoff Event

September 18th from 6-8pm

Come join us for our first ever Family Fitness Kickoff Event in conjunction with Fuel Up to Play 60 on September 18th from 6-8pm. We are excited to announce that our guest speaker will be Artose Pinner, former NFL player from the Detroit Lions. Our school was chosen as one of the few schools in the US to host an NFL player. Artose will be speaking to us on his involvement with Fuel Up to Play 60 as well as the importance of making healthy choices and the importance of physical fitness. We will also have various fitness and nutrition stations, smoothie samples from the National Dairy Council, Mountain States Health Alliance's mega hearts, and much, much more. Make plans to join us for this fantastic family-friendly event.

General Meeting and All Pro Dads Breakfast

The first general meeting of the 2012-2013 school year will be on Tuesday, September 11th at 6pm. An agenda for that evening will be posted soon. Also, the first All Pro Dad's breakfast of the year is scheduled for Thursday, September 13th at 7:30am. See you there!

Walk-A-Thon

4th Annual Miller Perry PTA Walk-A-Thon

Wednesday, May 9th

"We are walking across Tennessee"

Dear Miller Perry Parents,

We would like to invite you to help our school by assisting your child in getting sponsors for our upcoming walk-a-thon.  With proceeds from this event we will continue our efforts to improve our school both technologically and aesthetically.

In this wellness event, all students at Miller Perry will be given the chance to walk around the school walking trail with their class on Wednesday, May 9th.  Children can ask family, friends, neighbors, etc. to sponsor them in this walk.  Sponsorship donations may be per lap walked by the child or a flat donation for their efforts.  Students will bring their walk-a-thon envelopes and sponsor sheets to the event in order for us to record their total laps walked.  Then donations will be collected and turned int he following week.

Individual students who turn in $50 or more of donations will get their name put in a drawing once for every $50 they turn in.  We will draw 3 names to receive one of these Grand Prizes:  an iPad, a Nook Tablet/Kindle Fire or a laptop computer/netbook.

Also, our goal as a school is to walk the distance equivalent to crossing the state of Tennessee and coming back:  that is 440 miles each way.  We will mark our progress with a chalk drawing of TN on the basketball court.  If we meet this goal and meet last year's donation amount of $5,000, one lucky classroom teacher will receive $440 for improvements/supplies in their classroom.

The walk-a-thon will be an event of fun and excitement.  We encourage you to support your child in getting donations.  We also invite you to volunteer the day of the event to cheer the children on and assist with recording laps or serving refreshments.  If you can volunteer your time to help us the day of the walk-a-thon, please contact Lora Barnett at lbarnett30.lb@gmail.com.

FOUNDERS DAY CELEBRATION

Miller Perry Elementary PTA proudly presents our first Founders Day Celebration on Friday, February 24th, 2012 from 6:30pm – 8:30pm in the school gymnasium.

Please join us as we celebrate the history of Miller Perry and the PTA.  Tennessee PTA President Karen Davis will be our guest speaker for our PTA Birthday Celebration.  There will be performances by some of our children, many old artifacts, pictures and much more history of our great school and our PTA

We will also have all Safety Poster Contest entries on display and will announce the winners of both the Safety Poster and Essay Contest.

Light Refreshments will be available.
